Best Tattoo Booking and Scheduling Apps in 2026: 7 Compared on Real Monthly Cost
The best tattoo booking app for most US studios in 2026 is one with a flat monthly fee and standard card processing, such as Tattoo Studio Pro, InkDesk or Acuity. Apps that take a percentage of every deposit look free at first but become the most expensive option once your books are full.
Every "best tattoo booking app" list you will find is written by a company that sells one of the apps, and it ranks its own product first. We run Meta and TikTok ads for tattoo studios and do not sell booking software, so this comparison has no horse in the race. Prices below were checked on each vendor's own pricing page on 27 September 2026.
Quick picks
- Best value for a studio with steady bookings: Tattoo Studio Pro (flat price per team size, unlimited SMS reminders, consent forms included)
- Best for a solo artist starting out: Venue Ink Solo (free, you pay only when a deposit comes in)
- Best for artists who live in Instagram DMs: Tattoodo Books (clients pay the deposit inside the DM)
- Best if you already use it for other things: Acuity Scheduling (general scheduler, solid payments and text reminders)
- Best if you also want a marketplace: Fresha (cheap subscription, but a 20% fee on new clients it sends you)
- Need a POS for retail too? See tattoo shop POS and management software.

What each app really costs a busy studio
Headline prices hide the real cost, because some apps charge a flat fee and others take a cut of every deposit. So we priced one realistic month for every app.
The example studio: 3 artists, 40 booked sessions a month, a $100 deposit on each. That is $4,000 in deposits processed through the app. For apps that use Stripe we assumed Stripe's standard US card rate of 2.9% + $0.30 (check your own rate, it can differ).
| App and plan | Estimated monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Acuity Standard + Stripe | about $162 |
| Fresha Team (3 members), no marketplace clients | about $164 |
| Tattoo Studio Pro Crew + Stripe | about $197 |
| InkDesk Studio (3 artists) + Stripe | about $213 |
| Venue Ink Studio Pro (5% fee) | about $350 |
| Venue Ink Studio, free plan (10% fee) | about $400 |
| Tattoodo Books ($10 per booking) | about $400 plus any processing |
The takeaway: a "free" app that takes 10% of deposits costs about twice as much as a $69 flat plan once you pass roughly 20 bookings a month. Percentage fees are fine when you are starting out. They are a tax on success once you are busy.
Fresha looks cheap in this table, but every new client who finds you through Fresha's marketplace costs 20% of that first booking, with a $6 minimum. If most of your new clients come from your own Instagram and ads, that fee rarely applies. If Fresha becomes your main source of new clients, recalculate.
The apps, one by one
Tattoo Studio Pro
Built for tattoo shops only. Deposits go through a hosted Stripe page, SMS reminders are unlimited with no per-message fees, and digital consent forms with e-signatures are included on every plan. Pricing is by team size: $29 for one artist, $69 for up to five, $119 for up to ten, with 30% off on annual plans and a 30-day free trial.
Pick it if you want one predictable bill and consent forms in the same place as bookings. Skip it if you are a solo artist doing a handful of sessions a month; a free app is cheaper at that volume.
InkDesk
Also tattoo-specific, with custom booking forms, reminders and deposits with zero platform fees on top of Stripe. Solo is $35 a month ($25 on annual billing). Studio is $55 plus $15 per extra artist. 30-day trial, no card needed.
Pick it if you pay yearly and want the lowest fixed cost for a solo artist who takes deposits. Skip it if you have a large crew; the per-artist fee adds up faster than a tiered plan.
Acuity Scheduling
A general scheduler, not a tattoo app, but many shops use it. Starter is $20 a month, Standard is $34, Premium is $61 (cheaper on annual billing). Text reminders start on Standard. Payments run through Stripe, Square, PayPal or Venmo.
Pick it if your site already runs on Squarespace or you need a proven, stable calendar. Skip it if you want tattoo-specific intake questions (size, placement, reference images) without building them yourself.
Fresha
Salon and beauty software with a tattoo and piercing version and a consumer marketplace. $19.95 a month for one person, $14.95 per team member for teams. Online payments cost 2.79% + $0.20. New clients who find you through the Fresha marketplace cost a one-time 20% commission, minimum $6.
Pick it if you want the marketplace as an extra source of walk-in style clients. Skip it if your work is mostly large custom pieces; a 20% cut on a $1,200 first session hurts.
Bookedin
A long-running scheduler with a tattoo shop version: per-artist calendars, deposits, SMS and email reminders, automatic aftercare messages. Free up to 20 bookings a month, paid plans from $20, 14-day trial.
Pick it if you want to test online booking without paying anything. Skip it if you already do more than 20 sessions a month and want tattoo-specific consent forms included.
Venue Ink
Free plans for solo artists and studios, where you pay 10% on deposits and card payments. Pro plans ($50 solo, $150 studio) cut that to 5% and add automatic payout splits between artists.
Pick it if you are solo, low volume, and want to pay nothing until money comes in. Skip it if you process more than about $2,000 in deposits a month; the percentage costs more than a flat plan.
Tattoodo Books
No monthly fee, $10 per booking. The stand-out feature: clients request, get quoted and pay the deposit inside Instagram DMs, and the money lands the same day. Your profile can also pick up clients from the Tattoodo community.
Pick it if almost all your inquiries already come through Instagram DMs and you hate sending people to a form. Skip it if you book more than about 20 sessions a month; flat per-booking fees add up.
How to choose in 4 questions
- How many sessions do you book a month? Under 15: a free or per-booking app is cheapest. Over 20: a flat monthly plan almost always wins.
- Where do your clients first message you? If it is Instagram DMs, favour a tool that works with the DM (Tattoodo) or keep one saved reply that links to your form.
- Do you need consent forms in the same system? Tattoo Studio Pro includes them on every plan. Others need a separate tool.
- How many artists share the calendar? Tiered plans (Tattoo Studio Pro) suit crews of 3 to 10. Per-seat plans (InkDesk, Fresha) suit 2 to 3.
What no booking app will do for you
A booking app manages demand. It does not create it. If your calendar has gaps, a new app will not fill them; more people messaging you will. That comes from showing your healed work to people within a short drive of the studio, then answering fast.
The order that works: fix your profile, run ads that start conversations, answer within a day, take a deposit. The booking app is the last step, where the deposit gets collected. We cover the reply and deposit part in from DM to booked session, and the ads part in Meta ads for tattoo artists.
FAQ
What booking apps do most tattoo artists use?
There is no single standard. Solo artists often start on free, fee-based apps such as Venue Ink or Tattoodo Books, while busier studios move to flat-fee tools such as Tattoo Studio Pro, InkDesk, Acuity or Bookedin. Many artists still book entirely through Instagram DMs with a deposit link.
Is there a free tattoo booking app?
Yes. Venue Ink has free Solo and Studio plans (10% on deposits), Tattoodo Books has no monthly fee ($10 per booking), and Bookedin is free up to 20 bookings a month. "Free" apps charge per transaction, so they get more expensive as you get busier.
Should I take deposits through my booking app?
Yes. A deposit collected at booking cuts no-shows and filters people who are only browsing. Put the deposit rule in your booking form and your saved DM reply so it is never a negotiation.
What is the cheapest tattoo booking software for a studio?
For a 3-artist studio doing about 40 sessions a month, flat-fee plans with standard card processing (Acuity Standard, Fresha Team, Tattoo Studio Pro Crew) came out cheapest in our estimate, at roughly $160 to $200 a month including processing.
